Tournaments 2023 – Finals Day report

Finals Day 2023 – Report

The Club enjoyed a memorable Finals Day for the Club Tournaments.  One hundred years since the first Club Tournament, a Mixed Doubles event in 1923.
We had four seasons of weather in one day but it didn’t stop the tennis or the spectators enjoyment. The spectators sat back and enjoyed not only the tennis but excellent refreshments courtesy of Wendy and mel and also Head Chef Tim Robinson.
Well done to everyone who played in the Tournament.  As they say without losers there would be no winners!   Well done and congratulations to the winners and commiserations to the runners-up:
Men’s Singles – Steve Bramhall beat John Firth – 6-4, 4-6, 6-2
Women’s Singles – Lindy Payling beat Mel Wright 6-4, 6-0
Men’s Doubles– Alin Carnariu & Steve Bramhall beat Dave Bramhall and Mick Mason by 6-3, 4-6, 7-6
Women’s Doubles– Lucy Mitchell & Kim Robinson beat Sheila Goodwin and Lindy Payling by 7-6, 6-3
Mixed Doubles – Lindy Payling and Dave Bramhall beat Lucy Mitchell and Malcolm Harris by 6-2, 6-3
A big thanks to Mel Wright for a her efforts of running the competitions,  She has had to cope with a variety of issues amongst competitors such as illness, injuries, bad weather, holidays and some delays in matches being played. It all came good in the end though.
