Mixed team suffer first match defeat

Ridgeway fielded a mixed doubles team for the first time in many years on Tuesday 4th May but it ended in a 0-4 defeat to Moorgate B at the Rotherham club’s courts.  After last week’s postponement against Graves because of bad weather, it was another wet night and didn’t help either side as it rained heavily during the match.   Still, dessopite a defeat, it is great for the club to  be competing in the Mixed League once again.  Long may it continue.

Rob Mitchell and Sheila Goodwin though had two very close matches, but just losing both of them on a deciding tie break after sharing sets at 1-1.  In the first round Rob and Sheila lost the tie-break after sets of 6-4, 1-6.  in their second rubber the sets were shared at 7-6, 3-6.  Meanwhile Tim Robinson and Lindy Payling lost both their rubbers, losing to the seconds by 2-6, 1-6 and then to the firsts 0-6, 1-6.

Final match score was Rubbers 0-4, Sets 2-6, Games – 21-48.
