The Works League team suffered a close defeat by 3-1 to Moorgate B at Ridgeway on the 8th June.  Rob Mitchell partnered Jasper Patel and they beat the first Moorgate pair by 9-4 whilst Harvey Marsh and Steve Hill lost to the seconds by 6-9.  In the second round of matches Rob and Jasper lost by 5-9 to the seconds while Harvey and Steve lost to the firsts by 5-9.  FInal match score was Rubbers 1-3, Games 25 -31.

After the break fore the |Jubilee matches resumed and thw Mixed team hosted Chsterfield C on Tuesday the 6th June.  It neded in a narrow defeat for Ridgeway on a ganmes countback after rubbers and sets had been shared.

Rob Mitchell partnered daughter Lucy and they won their two rubbers by 6-4, 6-4 against the first couple and by 6-4, 7-5 against the seconds.  Tim Robinson and Sheila Good win lost their two rubbers.  First they lost 0-6, 3-6 against the second pair and then by 1-6, 4-6 against the firsts.  Final match score was Rubbers 2-2, Sets 4-4, Games 33-41.

The Saturday Men’s team travelled to Brentwood Tennis Club on the 28th to face the Nether Edge club’s B team.  The match ended in an 8-1 defeat for Ridgeway.

In the first round of matches Dave Bramhall and John Firth lost the first pair by 3-6, 3-6.  Mick Mason and Cliff Andrews lost to the seconds on a tie break after sets of 2-6, 6-4 and Danny Lidster and john Hallgarth lost to the thirds by 0-6, 4-6.  In the second round Dave and John F lost on a tie break after sets of 2-6, 6-0 whilst Mick and Cliff lost to the firsts by 0-6, 0-6 and Danny and John H lost to the seconds on a tie break after sets of 5-7, 6-3.  At 6-0 down the match was lost but in the final round of matches Dave and John gained a 6-0, 6-0 win with the Brentwood second pair conceding due to injury.  Mick and Cliff lost to the third pair by 2-6, 1-6 while Danny and John H lost to the firsts by 4-6, 0-6.  Final match score was Rubbers 1-8, Sets 5-13 and Games 56-89.

Ridgeway entertained Hackenthorpe on Wednesday evening (25th) but it resulted in a 4-0 defeat for the team. Jasper Patel and Harvey Marsh took on the hackenthorpe first pair and lost a close ruber by 7-9 whilst Ben Kay and John Hallgarth lost to the seconds by 4-9.  In the second round of matches Jasper and harvey lost to the seconds by 2-9 whilst Ben and John lost 4-9, the same score as their first rubber.

Final match score was Rubbers 0-4, Games 17-36.

Another tough match for the Men’s team on the 21st.  A trip to Stocksbridge resulted in a 2-7 defeat for the team.   Glyn Rudge and Danny Lidster were Ridgeway’s first pair and lost their first rubber by 3-6, 4-6. but Dave Bramhall and John Firth fared better as they beat the second couple on a tie break after sets of 4-6, 6-3.  Mick Mason and Cliff Andrews lost to the thirds by 1-6, 1-6. Stocksbridge 2-1 up after round 1.

In the second round Glyn and Danny lost to the third pair by 4-6, 2-6, Dave and John lost to the firsts on a tie break after sets of 6-4, 1-6 and Mick and Cliff lost on a tie break after sets of 0-6, 6-3.  The team were 5-1 down after the second round.  In the third round Glyn and Danny beat the seconds by 7-5, 6-4, Dave and John lost to the thirds on a tie break after sets of 6-2, 3-6.  Mick and Cliff lost to the firsts by 2-6, 1-6.

Final match score: Rubbers 2-7, Sets 6-12, Games 64-96

The mixed team visited Chesterfield Tennis Club in the latest divison 4 match to take on its B team.  The hosts proved too sstrong and wion the match by 4-0. Lindy Payling and Dave Bramhall lost by 2-6, 0-6 against the firsts and by 1-6, 5-7 against the seconds..  Sandra Bennett and Jasper Patel lost against the seconds by 2-6, 1-6 and then by 2-6, 0-6 against the firsts.  Final match score Rubbers 0-4, Sets 0-8, Games 13-49.

Ridgeway lost out to visitors Thorncliffe B at Ridgeway on Saturday the 14th May on a beautiful warm afternoon.  In the first round of matches John Firtnh and Jarek Doroszko beat the first couple on a tie break after sets were shared at 3-6, 6-4.   Glyn Rudge and Steve Hill \lost to the seconds by 2-6, 5-7 and Dave Bramhall and Tinm Robinson lost to the thirds omn a tie break after sets of 6-2, 1-6.  2-1 to Thorncliffe after the first round.  In the second round Johna dn jarek lost to the seconds by 3-6, 4-6; Glyn anmd Steve lost to the thiords bon a tie break after sets of 2-6, 7-5 and Dave and Tim beat the firsts by 6-4, 7-5. Match score then stood at 4-2 to Thorncliffe.  In the final round John and Jarek lost to the thirds by 4-6, 0-6, Glyn and Steve lost to the first by 2-6, 3-6 and Dave and Tim beat the seconds by 6-0, 6-0.

Final match score was Rubbers 3-6, Sets 7-11, Games 74 -89.

Two more midweek matches on Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11th May.

On Tuesday the Mixed team hosted  Hallam Grange and it ended in a 4-0 defeat for Ridgeway.  Rob Mitchell and Mel Wright lost their two rubbers, to the first pair by 1-6, 2-6 and to the seconds by 5-7, 4-6. Tim Robinson partnered Sandra Bennett and they lost their two rubbers by 1-6, 0-6 to the second Hallam Grange pair and then by 0-6, 0-6 to the firsts.  Match score was Rubbers 0-4, Sets 0-8 and Games 13-49.

On Wesdnesday the Works League team played Stocksbridge at Ridgeway and they too lost by 0-4.  Ben Kay and Steve Hill lost 3-9 to the first couple and by the same score to the seconds.  Danny Lidster and Jasper Patel lost by 5-9 to the seconds and just lost 8-9 to the firsts by 8-9.   Match score – Rubbers 0-4, Games 19-36.

Pl;ease note that there will be no access to play tennis on Sunday the 15th May until after 4:00 pm because of the Farmers and Craft Market being held on the Sports Club grounds.  Market stall holders will be arriving from 8:00 a.m. onwards and many will be setting up across the front of the tennis courts.  No parking will be allowed for anything other than market staff and sports club helpers until the event opens at 11:00 am.  It runs until 3:00 pm and then stall holders have to take their stalls etc down.  By 4:00 pm all stall holders will have left and normal access to the grounds will be allowed.

The draws for all the club knockout tournaments have now been drawn.  Mel Wright will be sending copies of the relevant draws by e-mail to all those members who have entered together with a list of contact numbers for each person in the respective draws.  There is also be a link to each draw on the Tournament page of this website.
