Fixture change – 29th June

The Tuesday 29th June fixture in the Midweek Mixed League has been cancelled and re-arranged for the 13th July because of, yes you have guessed it, football.  The England v Germany  Euro 2020 game is live on tv from 5.00 pm on the 29th.  Come on England!!!   Fot those non-football fans, the courts will be available for social play that evening.

The fixtuire list and calendar have been updated.

Code for gate locks has changed

As a result of some children as young as 6 or 7 getting access to the courts by unlocking the padlocks, the code for access has now been changed as from 10:00 a.m. on the 25th June.  An e-mail has been sent to members informing them of the new code.  The code must not be given to other people.

Covid Test and Trace – Report your play

The number of Covid infections has increased over the last two or three week so it is still vitally important for members to continue to follow the distancing and hygiene guidelines when they play tennis at the courts.   You must also continue to report your visit to Sandra Bennett after you have played.  Her contact details are:

Works League team make cup exit

Ridgeway’s Works League team made an exit from the Knock Out Cup after a defeat at Welbeck on Wednesday night.   Glyn Rudge partnered Keith Hukin and they set off well taking the first set against the first Welbeck paor by 6-3 and lost the second by 6-3.  (There should have been a deciding set in this format but it was decided to leave that until the second round of rubbers had been completed and see if it was necessary to play the set).  Second couple of Tim Robinson and Jasper Patel lost to the second pair by 3-6, 1-6.  In the second round Glyn and Keith lost by 3-6, 2-6 whilst Tim and Jasper lost by 1-6, 1-6 to the firsts.  This meant that Welbeck had won 3 rubbers with the outstanding one tied at one set all so playing that would not have affected the result.  So the final match score was a half to Ridgeway and 3 and a half to Welbeck, Sets were 1-7 and Games 20-45.

Midweek Mixed gain exciting win in tight contest

The Midweek Mixed team gained its fourth win in six matches with an exciting win in a tight match against Stocksbridge C at Ridgeway.  All four rubbers went to deciding tie-breaks.  Ridgeway’s first couple of Malcom Harris and Mel Wright lost to the visitor’s first pair on a deciding tie break after sets had been shared at 4-6, 6-2.  Meanwhile Keith Hukin and Lindy Payling also lost to the second pair ona deciding tie-break after sets of 7-5, 4-6.  This meant the team were 2-0 down on rubbers with sets shared at 2-2 and games shared at 21-21.  With such a close match there was all to play for.  In the second round  Malcolm and Mel won their deciding tie break against the seconds after scores of 3-6, 6-2 and Keith and Lindy beat the first couple on the tie break after set scores of 6-2, 4-6.

When it was all added up the final match score was Rubbers 2-2, Sets 4-4, games 42-37 in Ridgeway’s favour.  Could you get a closer game?  Yes is the answer, but this was almost as tight as they come.  Well done team for that fight back from 0-2 down.

Men trek to Donny but come back empty handed

The men’s team had a afternoon trip to Doncaster on Saturday but it was the home team that won the match with a 3-1 victory.

Final match score: Rubbers 1-3, Sets 2-6, Games 22-45
