Ridgeway Sports and Socal Club is hosting an Active Summer Camp from Monday the 26th July until Friday the 27th August. The sessions will run from 8:30 a.m. until 4.30 pm on Monday to Friday. Amongst many other activities, the Camp will use the tennis courts during this time but will not interfere with members activities. They will only use one court during the day unless there are no members there when they may use two. The camp is OFSTED registered and all the young people attending will be subject the Camp’s test and trace system and any guidance that they are required to follow. This camp will be providing a wide range of activities, both indoors and out, and it may help attract new members to the local sports clubs as well as providing organised entertainment and education for local youngsters. The camp will use the cricket and football grounds above the tennis courts for other sports activities.

More court time freed up
The Midweek Mixed league fixtures on Tuesday nights and the Works League matches on Wednesday nights have now concluded. This means that Tuesday and Wednesday nights are available for members to play some social tennis or to play those tournament matches. Please concentrate on tournament games wherever possible.
Latest LTA Covid guidance
The LTA issued new Covid guidelines on the 15th july in view of the recent Governemnt announcement. Details can be found as usual on the lnks on the home page. The club’s committee will be discussing the implicatioons of this shortly and any changes to our current operations will be notified to members shortly after.
Ridgeway feel the heat in the Late Summer Men’s league
With air temperrature at 30C Ridgeway hosted Barnsley A in the opening round of matches in Division 2 of the Late Summer Men’s League. The visitors proved far too good for the home team as the visitors won all four rubbers. Rob Mitchell and Cliff Andrews lost to the first Barnsley pair by 0-6-06. whilst Mick Mason and John Hallgarth lost by 2-6, 0-6 to the second pair. The heat did not let up for the second round either as John and Mick lost to the firsts by 1-6, 0-6 while Rob and Cliff lost to the seconds by 3-6, 1-6. Final match score was Rubber 0-4, Sets 0-8, Games 7-48.
Midweek Mixed last match with Rustlings B ends in defeat
The Midweek Mixed team finished the season with a re-arranged match at Ridgeway against Rustlings B. The team was Rob and Lucy Mitchell and Jasper Patel and Sheila Goodwin.
In the first round of matches Rob and lucy beat the first pair by 7-6, 6-4 whilsJt Jasper and Sheila lost to the seconds by 4-6, 1-6. In the second round Rob and Lucy lost by 3-6, 4-6 top the seconds whilst Jasper and Sheila lost to the first by 0-6, 1-6.
Final match score was Rubbers 1-3, Sets 2-6, Games 21- 46.
The team has won four and lost four over the season.. Thanks foto Rob for sorting the teams out and to all the players who have represented the club in this first season back in the Mixed League for many years. Long may it continue.
Works League match postponed again!
The club’s last Works League fixture has been postponed for the second time.. Originally fixed for the 7th July it was put back to the 14th to enable everyone to watch the Euro 2020 semi final. Unfortunately, it has now had to be postponed due to Covid issues at opponents Swinden House. A new date will be confirmed as soon as possible.
Mixed team lose out in the rain at Graves
Ridgeway’s Mixed Doubles team lost 3-1 in the rain against Graves B in a re-arranged match last Tuesday the 6th July. Rob Mitchell and Mel Wright lost 4-6, 2-6 to the first couple but beat the seconds by 6-4, 6-4. Meanwhile second pair Keith Hukin and Lucy Mitchell lost to the second pair by 6-7, 2-6 aND then to the firsts by 0-6, 0-6. Final match score Rubbers 1-3, Sets 2-6, Games 26 – 45
Men’s team gain another win after rule breach by opponents.
Ridgeway Men’s team played at Hallam Grange on the 3rd July in a match re-arranged from the 15th May. On the day the team lost by 4-0 but subsequentky Hallam Grange have been found to be in breach of the S & D LTA’s rules by fielding an ineligible A team player. The player in question had already played 4 times for the club’s first team and no matches in Division 5. This has put the club in breach of bye-law 13a and d. The final match score, unless Hallam Grange appeal, is that the rubbers, sets and games won by the ‘offending’ couple would be taken away and awarded to Ridgeway. The final match score will be Rubbers 2-2 Sets 4-4 Games 24-26 in Ridgeway’s favour.
Works League fixture postponed
The Works League match, scheduled for Wednesday the 7th July has been postponed, as have all the fixtures that evening, to allow people to watch the Euro semi- final. Ridgeway’s match, at Swinden House will be re-arranged and the fixture list and calendar updated.
Hallam Grange prove too strong for the Men’s Team
Hallam Grange B proved too strong for Ridgeway Men’s team on Saturday as the home team won 4-0. Rob Mitchell and Keith Hukin lost to the first couple by 2-6, 6-1 whilst Mick Mason and Tim Robinson lost 1-6, 1-6 to the seconds. In the second round round of rubbers Rob and Keith just lost a tight first set by 5-7 and the second set by 2-6 to the second pair but Mick and Tim got well beaten by 0-6, 0-6 by the first pair.
One of the Hallam Grange team has represented GB in over age tennis for years and has played at over 60s, over 65 and now over 70-teams for GB both in this country and abroad.
Final match score Rubbers 0-4, sets 0-8 and games 12- 48.
