Tournament 2024

Dear Members,

Hope you are all well!

You are all invited to take part in this year’s club tournaments:

–         Ladies Singles
–         Ladies Doubles
–         Men Singles
–         Men Doubles
–         Mixed Doubles
(Can I please encourage as many ladies as possible to please sign up for this competition as we usually have plenty of men signing up…)

Possible Changes to previous years depending of number of entries:

A consolation round could be considered for those who lose first round matches.

Also, in Mixed Doubles the lady losing in first round could play again with a second partner to

give more men chance to take part.

Members who sign up need to be available for Finals Day on Sunday, 8th September 2024  if you manage to reach  one of the finals.

Just some general info especially for our new members who we would like to encourage to give it a go:

The tournaments are a great way of getting to know other club members, getting chance to play more competitively and it is very convenient as you arrange the date & time yourselves whenever it suits you with your opponent/double partner.
(contact details will be shared with each group after the draw end of April)

We have a couple of cut-off dates:

All first round matches should be played by 30th June 2024.
All results must be reported back to myself as a record.
We usually aim to have the semi-finals played at least one or two weeks ahead of the finals day.

Otherwise the matches can be arranged during the season at your convenience.

Entry fees will be £3 per tournament to cover the costs of trophies etc.

If you would like to enter, you can contact me by e-mail on melaniepencik@web.de or give me a ring on 07445514791 / 0114 457 4854.

*** Details on how to pay the tournament fee this year will follow soon ***

Closing date for entries is Monday, 8th April 2024.

Please find attached the general 2024 Tournament Rules for the tournaments.

The draw will take place end of April.Once we have the final numbers of competitors the format of each tournament will be confirmed and sent out to all competitors accordingly.

Important:
Please note that by signing up for the club’s tournament you automatically agree that your contact details will be shared
with the other competitors in order to arrange the matches.

Thank you and have a great injury free tennis season everybody!

Any questions at all regarding the tournament please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best Regards,

Mel Wright

Presentation night 2023

After the postponed event of the 20th October the Club held a successful Presentation Evening on the 1st December in the Sports and Social Club.  The club celebrated a successful summer season during which the club won two trophies, the Works League Division 2 title and the S & D LTA Late Summer Men’s League Division 3 title.  Chair Mick Mason paid tribute to all the people who had worked hard on the committee and with other jobs to keep the club running.  He thanked Wendy Robertson and Sandra Bennett for their work over many years who had decided not to stand as committee members.  He also thanked Judy Davis for her work over many years and who would no longer be the membership Secretary but would stay on the committee.

There was an entertaining quiz which brought out the competitive edge in many of attendees and a break in the middle for the presentation of the the trophies. Ben Kay and Tim Robinson gave accounts of the Works League and men’s League results before Tournament Secretary Mel Wright reported on the tournaments before all the winners and runners-up received their trophies.  Photographs of the event can be found on the club Facebook pages.

Report from Annual General Meeting

The club AGM was held on the 23rd November 2023.   Links to the minutes and financial documents are attached.  Members should have a look at these to see the current state of the club and intentions for the forthcoming year.

Thanks to all who have volunteered to serve as committee members.   There are other jobs that may need doing throughout the year and members may be able to help in other ways, regardless as to whether they are on the committee or not.

Hope everyone is looking forward to 2024.

Chairman’s report to the AGM 2023

AGM – Thursday 23rd November 2023

The Club’s AGM is being held on Thursday 23rd November 2023 at the Sports Club at 7.30 pm.

Make you are there to contribute to the meeting and to the future of the club.  Have you got skills we could use as a committee member?  Would you offer to take just one job but not be on the committee? One or two of our members have decided to not to stand again after their many years service on the Committee.  Have you any ideas to change what we currently do as a club.

Hope to see you on Thursday.

Presentation night re-arranged for December 1st

The Presentation Night has been re-arranged for Friday the 1st December 2023 same venue same time. Judy Davis has today sent an all member e-mail out to notify members of that date.  The committee hopes that the date doesn’t inconvenience too many people but it is inevitable that some people may not be able to attend although it may some members may be able to make it where they couldn’t before.
