In an exciting match Ridgeway men’s team lost 0-4 to Thorncliffe on a sunny afternoon at Ridgeway on Saturday the 19th. That scoreline just doesn’t tell the full story of a long match that was far closer than the 0-4 scoreline suggests. Ridgeway lost three of the rubbers on long tie-breaks after the sets were tied at 1-1. First couple Danny Lidster and John Hallgarth lost to the visitors first pair by 5-7, 2-6 whilst Tim Robinson and Dave Bramhall lost to the seconds on a tie break after sets of 7-6, 2-6. In the second round John and Danny lost on a tie-break to the seconds after sets of 7-6, 3-6 whilst Tim and Dave lost again on a tie break after sets of 6-7, 6-4.
In the end it all added up as follows: Rubbers 0-4, Sets 3-5, Games 38-51. The next match for the team is another home match on the 26th September against Abbeydale B.
